✨ Why You’ll Love This Fall Updo

If you’re craving that soft, romantic, effortless fall hairstyle, this look is for you.
I’m Brandi Sharp — hairstylist, colorist, and content creator behind Prim Beauty Parlor in Gretna, Nebraska — and this is my go-to updo for busy mornings, weddings, or cozy coffee runs.

It’s elegant yet easy, and looks stunning with a pair of statement earrings or a fall-textured sweater.

💇‍♀️ What You’ll Need

  • Dyson Airwrap (or your favorite blow dryer)
  • Small elastic bands
  • Bobby pins
  • Paul Mitchell “Hot Off The Press” spray
  • Davines “This Is A Strong Hairspray”
  • Wet Brush or paddle brush
  • Optional: Texture spray or light mousse for hold

🪞 Step-By-Step: The Fall Updo with Curtain Bangs

Step 1: Prep the Hair
Start with day-old hair that already has some curl or texture. Lightly spray Paul Mitchell Hot Off The Press before styling to protect from heat and add grip.

Step 2: Bring the Hair Up
Using your brush, gather all your hair into a high ponytail at the crown of your head. Secure with a small elastic. Don’t worry about perfection — this look is meant to be soft and touchable.

Step 3: Create the Updo
Take small sections from the ponytail, twist them forward, and wrap loosely around the base. Secure each twist with bobby pins, arranging them until the updo feels balanced and full.

Step 4: Add Volume + Texture
Gently pull out a few face-framing pieces or twist ends for a lived-in feel. Lightly backcomb the crown if you want extra volume.

Step 5: Style the Curtain Bangs
Using your Dyson Airwrap, wrap each bang section away from your face for a soft, bouncy shape. Then brush through with a Wet Brush to create that dreamy, swoopy movement.

Step 6: Lock It In
Finish with Davines Strong Hairspray for hold, misting from a distance so the look stays soft and airy — not stiff.

🌸 Brandi’s Pro Tip

The secret to this look is texture over perfection. The best updos are those that move — they don’t look shellacked or over-styled. Keep the front light and the shape balanced from every angle.

If your bangs feel too curly, just take a larger section and brush through while using your Airwrap. Remember: hair is trainable — don’t give up on your fringe too soon!
